Project Notes

BILLS RESIDENCE -- Susie and Jason were referred to Bathroom Galleries by their architect and general contractor. They were already in the process of remodeling their family home, and were in need of a larger master suite. Due to the limited floor plan of the house, the architect and designer looked to the existing basement with unfinished floor as a solution to the problem. The couple's taste reflected their love of Zen: clean uncluttered rooms and minimalist decor. That presented a certain challenge for the designer: how to achieve the minimalist look and at the same time provide needed storage and meet code requirements? The space was divided into two distinct areas: the main area for the bedroom, closets and fireplace; a smaller space for a new bathroom.

To accommodate busy schedules of the husband and wife, the designer specified "his" and "hers" separate showers within available shower space. Jason fully enjoys a massive ceiling installed rain shower head and massage body jets. Susie uses a more appropriate for a woman personal showers with multiple settings on a sliding bar. Both received oversized recessed niches with frosted glass shelves to store all their personal hygiene supplies. To keep the shower open but private at the same time, frosted glass screens from floor to ceiling were specified instead of a standard glass enclosure. The shower also features a corner bench covered with warmer Corian solid surface and tumbled glass mosaic floor.

The dressing area of the bathroom features items that add to the openness of the plan: wall-hung toilet, wall-hung vanity drawers, wall-mounted lavatory faucets, a storage bench on casters for easy moving. Extra towels are stored on a hotel shelf, smaller items of everyday use inside recessed mirrored cabinets. Walls are tiled from floor to ceiling with three distinct patterns of creamy porcelain tile to create a mix of textures. The result was exactly what Susie and Jason had in mind: modern, open, minimalist... awesome!
